We were honoured to welcome the directors and storytellers behind Facing the Numbers ahead of its world premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Produced by Garuwa, the powerful documentary centred the voices of Stolen Generations members, families who had lost loved ones to deaths in custody, and survivors of violence in custody - sharing the deeply personal stories behind the statistics on family separation, incarceration and police violence. The screenings offered audiences an important opportunity to listen, reflect and support First Nations storytelling and filmmaking.
This story mentions deaths in custody, violence in custody and the Stolen Generations.
